A historical overview of Wood County National Bank
Wood County National Bank was chartered in January of 1981. During the last 28+ years, the past President Joe Parris, Jr., has been committed to the promise that the bank would be community oriented. Saying “We’ll ask what can we do for the community” during the ground breaking of the original bank location on 417 S Main Street, Quitman, TX on July of 1981.
The founding Board of Directors were Henry Harris, W.C. Jackson, Jr., Herman V. Puckett, Dr. Ben F. Merritt, M.D., Dr. Joe V. Dawson, D.V.M., Max Newton, Owen Z. Cain, Johnnie W. Wells, John Morse and Tommie Milner.
Throughout the years, Wood County National Bank has grown steadily, sometimes spectacularly, but always with strength. When the bank opened for its first day of business in 1982, it had a total capital of $1.5 million.
The current President and COO Elaine Schwartz is proud of the communities we serve and welcome the opportunity to continue to serve today and into the future.
